What are Implants?

A dental implant is a titanium cylinder that acts as a substitute root to replace a missing tooth. This provides a long-lasting platform to support a crown or bridge or add retention to a denture.

An implant supported crown or bridge looks and functions like a natural tooth.

Dental implants have been in use in the UK since the 1980’s. Extensive research shows that they are effective and reliable replacement for missing teeth.

How do Dental Implants Work?

A dental implant is placed into the bone.  Over a period of several weeks the titanium implant fuses with the bone. This provides a solid foundation for the dental restoration.

Once fused into the bone, an abutment is attached to the implant. This allows connection of the replacement tooth to the implant.

Unlike a conventional crown or bridge, adjacent teeth do not need to be prepared or ground down to hold your new replacement tooth/teeth in place, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
